Pricing

Know what it costs before we knock.

Plumbing's worst reputation is the surprise on the invoice. So here are honest, typical ranges for Newcastle & Lake Macquarie, not one magic number, because no two jobs are identical. We charge by the job, not the hour, and you get an exact fixed price in writing before any work starts.

Indicative ranges

Typical price bands across the Hunter.

Indicative ranges AU 2026
Leaking or dripping tap (Washer, cartridge or full tap.) $180 to $420
Blocked drain cleared (Most jobs stop right here.) $180 to $400
Burst or split pipe (Depends on access and length.) $200 to $800
Hot water, electric (Supplied and installed.) $1,200 to $3,000
Hot water, gas storage (Supplied and installed.) $1,500 to $3,500
Gas appliance or cooktop install (Compliance certificate included.) $1,500 to $3,500+
Indicative only (modelled), not a quote. Your figure is tied to the specifics of your job, its condition and access. Slab or wall-cavity access, after-hours timing and compliance items like a tempering valve are what push a job toward the top of its range.

What moves the number

Six things that decide where your quote lands.

None of them are secrets. Every one is named on your written quote.

What moves the price

Six levers. One honest range.

1After-hours & public holidays
2Access & complexity

4System type & compliance
After-hours & public holidays
A genuine 2am call-out costs more than a Tuesday morning. We tell you the loading before we leave the depot, never on the invoice.

After-hours & public holidays

A genuine 2am call-out costs more than a Tuesday morning. We tell you the loading before we leave the depot, never on the invoice.

Access & complexity

A leak under a slab or in a two-storey wall cavity takes longer than one under the sink. The harder to reach, the higher in the range.

How far a drain job goes

A snake clears most blockages cheaply. Camera, jet and excavation only come in when the drain forces it, each quoted before we start it.

System type & compliance

A heat pump costs more than a basic electric unit, and a hot-water swap legally needs a tempering valve. That is the law, not padding, and it is in the quote.

How our quote is built

What a Mainline quote itemises.

The diagnosis, the full fix, the compliance items and the guarantee, line by line.

What's actually on the quote

Seven lines. Every one in writing.

The diagnosis
What is actually wrong, found on-site, not guessed over the phone.

“$4,500 the house” by text  →  seven lines, priced.

How a fixed-price quote gets built on-site, from diagnosis to the line items.
The 7-line quote
  1. 1 The diagnosis. What is actually wrong, found on-site, not guessed over the phone.
  2. 2 The fix, in full. Parts and labour for the whole job, itemised. No "from" pricing.
  3. 3 Compliance, where the law needs it. Gas or backflow work includes the certificate, lodged where required.
  4. 4 The guarantee. Lifetime workmanship in writing, plus your unit warranty registered.
If a quote doesn’t show these lines, you can’t compare it, and you don’t know what’s been cut.

Honest scope

Repair, replace, full re-do or investigate first.

Option A

Repair it

Fix the fault with the unit or pipework you already have. The right call when the system is sound and the part is the problem.

Right when: A recent unit, a single leak, a clearable blockage.
Wrong when: The unit is old or the same fault keeps returning.
$180 to $800
Most common

Replace the unit or section

Swap the failed hot water unit, tap or pipe run for a new one. Often the smarter spend once a system is past its life.

Right when: A unit past 10 years, a recurring fault, corroded pipework.
Wrong when: A near-new system with a one-off, cheaply fixable fault.
$1,200 to $3,500
Option C

Full re-do

Rough-in to fit-off for a bathroom, kitchen or whole-house re-pipe. The honest option when a renovation or old galvanised pipe forces it.

Right when: A renovation, a failing whole-of-house system.
Wrong when: A single fixture or isolated fault.
$3,000 to $8,000+
Option D

Investigate first

Locate a hidden leak or camera a recurring blockage before committing to a repair, so the fix is targeted not exploratory.

Right when: A bill up with no puddle, a drain that keeps blocking.
Wrong when: The fault is already obvious and accessible.
Scoped first, then quoted
Pricing questions

What people ask about the money.

Is the quote free, or do I pay for it?
The quote is free. We do not charge a call-out fee just to come and look, and we do not charge to work out the price. We diagnose on-site and put a fixed-price quote in writing at no cost. You only pay if you approve the job.
Is it a fixed price or charged by the hour?
Fixed price. We diagnose on-site, quote the whole job in writing, and that is the price, it does not move once you approve it. Any after-hours loading is disclosed before we start, never sprung on the invoice.
Why is there a tempering valve on my hot water quote?
Because it is required by law on a hot water replacement, it limits the delivered temperature to prevent scalding. It is a genuine compliance item, not padding, and we point it out on the quote so you can see what it is.
How can I pay for the work?
Card, tap-and-go or bank transfer once the job is done. For larger jobs like a hot water replacement or a bathroom, we can talk through payment options up front, and we confirm how and when payment is due as part of the quote.
